Recently the world of entertainment and, specifically app, film and game development were the feature on the front page of PM Network–the professional magazine for the Project Management Institute (PMI), the governing body of the project management world. The focus of the article was how the the stories in games, apps and/or film can’t happen unless project teams effectively manage creativity expectations and stakeholders (stakeholders defined as everyone with a business interest in the project). It’s that balance that has haunted the art vs. commerce world for a while and it’s nice to see that the freedom brought on by methodology is presented as an empowering foundation for creating rather than a stifling boundary for it. The idea that discipline actually fosters freedom is not often recognized and is a foundation of what MV3 focuses on.
One staggering fact is that 59% of apps don’t even break even (SOURCE: App Promo). And doesn’t take an economist to see that eventually, the funds available to created will dwindle if that type of imbalance is not adjusted. Then less risks are funded, less creativity is produced and the world becomes a darker place. That is the real stifling boundary. And every creator of art–of any kind–will benefit from learning more.
